2 PETER 3:18 – But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD PRODUCES THE MIND OF GOD, THE HEART OF GOD, AND THE WAYS OF GOD. A PEOPLE WHO HAVE A FIRM GRASP ON GOD’S WORD ARE VERY FRUITFUL AND VERY EFFECTIVE IN ADVANCING GOD’S KINGDOM. THEY EASILY DISCERN THE THINGS OF MEN FROM THE THINGS OF GOD, AND ABLE TO TEACH, ADMONISH, CORRECT, AND TRAIN OTHERS IN RIGHTEOUSNESS. FOR THOSE WHO DESIRE TO GROW IN THE THINGS OF GOD AT AN ALARMING RATE, THIS POST IS FOR YOU.
GROW IN THE WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S WORD
THIS GENERATION NEEDS TO EXPLODE IN AND INTO THE WORD OF GOD. STORIES DON’T PRODUCE GODLINESS, BUT DOCTRINE ACCORDING TO GODLINESS DOES. THIS GENERATION HAS DEVELOPED AN APPETITE FOR STORIES, BUT MUST BE INSTRUCTED IN THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
2 Timothy 4:4
And they shall turn away their ears FROM THE TRUTH, and shall be TURNED UNTO FABLES (STORIES).
41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at HIS UNDERSTANDING AND HIS ANSWERS.
48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
LESSON: JESUS’ IN-DEPTH WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S MYSTERIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND REVELATION STAGGERED MOST PEOPLE AT THE AGE OF 12. THIS IS THE VISION WE NEED FOR OUR CHILDREN IN THIS GENERATION.
51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And JESUS GREW IN WISDOM AND STATURE, and in favor with God and man.
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by BY REASON OF USE HAVE THEIR SENSES EXERCISED TO DISCERN BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.
THE WISDOM AND REVELATION OF JESUS TEACHING
CONSIDER HOW MUCH JESUS GRASPED THE WORD OF THE LIVING GOD. THE WORD WAS SO ALIVE THAT DEMONS TREMBLED AT HIS PREACHING. HIS TEACHING SO ACCURATE, NO ONE COULD FIND FAULT.
ALL THE WHILE, PEOPLE WERE BEING SET FREE. THE GATES OF HELL SHOOK AT HIS ARRIVAL TO A NEW CITY. NOTHING COULD STOP THE MOVE OF GOD. ANGELS READY TO MINISTER. THE SPIRIT READY TO MOVE, AND THE WORD OF GOD CHANGING THE HEARTS OF SINNERS INTO THOSE WHO NOW SERVE THE LIVING GOD!
1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”— 3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
LESSON: JESUS SPENT MANY YEARS IN HIS FATHER’S HOLY WORD. HE KNEW HIS MISSION WOULD GROW AS FAR AS HIS SPIRIT COULD CONTAIN. WHEN THE TIME CAME, HE WAS THE WORD THAT BECAME FLESH (JOHN 1)
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,”Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.
19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “WHAT IS THIS? A NEW TEACHING (DOCTRINE)- AND WITH AUTHORITY! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
THE 3 MOST IMPORTANT LESSONS ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD
MANY THINGS CAN AND SHOULD BE TAUGHT ABOUT GOD’S WORD. MANY ARE THOSE WHO ARE NOT BEARING FRUIT, OR IN DECEPTION IN AN AREA THEY HAVE NOT STUDIED. AS WE WILL SEE IN THE LIFE OF JESUS, HIS FRUIT WAS IMMENSE AND HIS GRASP ON THE WORD LEFT THE DEVIL DEFEATED EVERY TIME.
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
LESSON #1: EVERY PERSON LIVES, AND ADVANCES ON THE WORD OF THE LORD. WE MOVE FORWARD WHEN WE HAVE A WORD FROM GOD.
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
LESSON #2: THE DEVIL KNOWS THE WORD AND TRIES TO DECEIVE GOD’S PEOPLE, BUT WE MUST KNOW THE WORD BETTER THAN THE DEVIL.
7 Jesus answered him, “IT IS ALSO WRITTEN: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
LESSON #3: THE END RESULT OF OUR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD MUST LEAD TO OBEDIENCE AND TRUE WORSHIP TO GOD.
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For IT IS WRITTEN: ‘WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
USE THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD TO EDIFY OTHERS
WHILE THE DEVIL WOULD LIKE TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF GOD, IT IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH THAT SETS PEOPLE FREE.
AS WE LEARN HOW TO ABIDE, RIGHTLY DIVIDE, AND MINISTER THE WORD OF GOD TO OTHERS, WE ARE EQUIPPED AND EQUIPPING OTHERS IN THE THINGS OF THE KINGDOM, THINGS OF THE SPIRIT, AND MAKING MANY PEOPLE RICH IN GOOD WORKS UNTO GOD.
I CORINTHIANS 8:1
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that “We all possess knowledge.” But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.
I CORINTHIANS 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom ALL MYSTERIES AND ALL KNOWLEDGE, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For WE KNOW IN PART and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. NOW I KNOW IN PART; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Hosea 4:6 – GOD’S PEOPLE ARE DESTROYED FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget thy children.
Romans 12:2 – BE ABLE TO APPROVE GOD’S WILL IN ALL THINGS
And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 – STUDY GOD’S WORD TO BE APPROVED BY GOD
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
JAMES 3:13 – BE ENDUED WITH KNOWLEDGE
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
Romans 15:14-16 – COMPETANT TO INSTRUCT ONE ANOTHER
14 I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, FILLED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENT TO INSTRUCT ONE ANOTHER. 15 Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
Colossians 3:16 – LET THE WORD DWELL RICHLY IN YOU
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Colossians 1:1-14 – PRAY FOR OTHERS TO BE FILLED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, 2 To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father. 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel 6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
7 You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.
9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to FILL YOU WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL THROUGH ALL WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING THAT THE SPIRIT GIVES, SO THAT YOU MAY LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE LORD AND PLEASE HIM IN EVERY WAY: BEARING FRUIT IN EVERY GOOD WORK, GROWING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD,
11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
SEVEN IMPORTANT CHAPTERS ON GOD’S WORD
THESE 5 CHAPTERS ARE VITAL TO EVERY BELIEVER. IT LAYS THE GROUNDWORK FOR EVERY BELIEVER TO LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF THE GOSPEL THAT CALLED THEM OUT OF DARKNESS AND INTO GOD’S MARVELOUS LIGHT.
JOHN 8 – BECOMING JESUS DISCIPLES, FREE FROM SIN
JOHN 15 – ABIDING IN THE VINE OF GOD’S WORD AND BEARING MUCH FRUIT
ROMANS 1 – IMPORTANCE OF RETAINING GOD IN OUR KNOWLEDGE
ROMANS 8 – AFTER THINGS OF THE SPIRIT OR MINDING THINGS OF THE SPIRIT
I JOHN 1 – GOD’S WORD PRODUCES LIGHT IN OUR LIFE
1 JOHN 2 – THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING GOD’S WORD
REVELATION 1 – WRITTEN PROPHECIES OF THINGS WHICH MUST COME TO PASS
THE FULL ARMOUR OF GOD
GOD’S WORD PRODUCES ARMOR. THE MORE WE ARE IN THE WORD OF GOD, THE GREATER THE ARMOR OF GOD WE WALK IN. EVERY DETAIL OF OUR LIVES AND MINISTRY CAN BE FULLY ALIGNED WITH GOD’S WAYS SO THAT WE ARE NOT IN DECEPTION BUT CONTINUALLY WALKING IN THE TRUTH.
For the WORD OF GOD is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD on the full, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD, SO THAT WHEN THE DAY OF EVIL COMES, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO STAND YOUR GROUND, AND AFTER YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING, TO STAND.
14 Stand firm then, with the BELT OF TRUTH BUCKLED around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
2 Corinthians 10:1-6
1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD,and bringing into captivity every thought TO THE OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, WHEN YOUR OBEDIENCE IS FULFILLED.
Ephesians 5:15-17 – See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
