Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But who has this world’s good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. (I John 3:16-18)
THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM IS ABOUT BRINGING GOOD TIDINGS. IT’S ABOUT REPENTANCE. IT’S ABOUT ETERNAL SALVATION. IT’S ABOUT RESTORATION. IT’S ALSO ABOUT MEETING NEEDS. JESUS PREACHED FORGIVENESS OF SINS, TAUGHT ABOUT THE FATHER AND HOLY SPIRIT, HEALED THE LEPER AND EVERY SICKNESS AND DISEASE AMONG THE PEOPLE, AND RAISED THE DEAD.
YET, JESUS AND HIS APOSTLES ALSO GAVE TO THE POOR AND FED MULTITUDES IN THE WILDERNESS. GOD IS SUPERNATURAL AND DELIGHTS IN MANIFESTING HIS PRESENCE, POWER AND PROVISION.
BUT HE NEEDS VESSELS WHO WILL GIVE INTO AND SUPPORT THIS WORK. YOU MAY ONLY HAVE 5 LOAVES AND 2 FISH, BUT GOD WILL USE WHAT WE HAVE.
MAY THIS POST PROVIDE A SURE FOUNDATION FROM WHICH GOD’S MINISTERS AND PEOPLE GROW AND EXCEL IN THIS GRACE AND ABOUND IN WORKS OF COMPASSION. SO LONG AS OUR LIVES REMAIN UNBLEMISHED FROM THE WORLD, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL EXCEED MANY.
WHILE IT IS TRUE WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE POOR WITH US (Matthew 26:11), THIS DOES NOT PREVENT OR EXCLUDE THE BODY OF CHRIST FROM MEETING NEEDS. THE GOSPEL IS ABOUT THE NEED FOR SALVATION. THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE, AND JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval. (Romans 14:17-18)
WE HAVE CHRIST, THE ETERNAL HOPE OF GLORY (Colossians 1:27). WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD AND SALT OF THE EARTH (Matthew 5:13-16). AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD DWELLS WITHIN US (Luke 17:20-21).
YET, CONSIDER THE WORDS OF OUR LORD WHEN HE BEGAN TO TEACH HIS OWN DISCIPLES ABOUT BEING “BLESSED”. WE ARE THOSE WHO SEEK TO MANIFEST GOD’S KINGDOM THROUGHOUT THE EARTH, EVEN IN 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES. BELIEVE GOD FOR MORE THERE, NOT LESS. JUST AS JESUS FED MULTITUDES IN THE WILDERNESS, GOD WILL OVERCOME ABJECT POVERTY AND LACK WITH HIS PRESENCE AND PROVISION.
IN MATTHEW 5:5-7, WE LEARN…Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
He said: “Blessed are the POOR IN SPIRIT, for theirs is the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.
Blessed are those who MOURN, for they will be COMFORTED.
Blessed are the MEEK, for THEY WILL INHERIT THE EARTH.
Blessed are THOSE WHO HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, for they will be FILLED.
Blessed are the MERCIFUL, for THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY.
THE MERCY AND COMPASSION OF JESUS AND HIS BODY OF SAINTS
Matthew 18:21-35 – COMPASSION IS GOD’S CAPACITY WITHIN A PERSON’S HEART TO RESPOND TO A NEED. JESUS’ COMPASSION WAS FULLY ALIVE AND SEEKING TO SAVE EVERY SOUL. IN FACT, MUCH OF HIS MINISTRY WAS IN RESPONSE HIS MERCY AND COMPASSION. HE KNEW ALL PEOPLE WERE SINFUL. HE CAME TO EARTH ANYWAY. HIS MERCY WAS NOT LIMITED BY THE SIN OR IGNORANCE OF PEOPLE, NOR THE PLANS OF THE ENEMY.
EVEN THOUGH HE CAME TO THE JEW FIRST AS HEIRS OF SALVATION, HE WOULD DIE FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. 23 “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
26 “At this the servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
28 “But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.
29 “His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’
30 “But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.
32 “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”
Luke 10:25-37 – IT’S THE COMPASSION OF JESUS WE MUST SHOW TO THOSE WHO ARE AFFLICTED. YET, WE MUST ALSO ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT WE CANNOT BECOME SO BUSY THAT WE FAIL TO LISTEN TO THE WORD OF GOD.
25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”
27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him,and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, HE HAD COMPASSION.
34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and HE SET HIM ON HIS OWN ANIMAL, BROUGHT HIM TO AN INN, and TOOK CARE OF HIM.
35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and WHATEVER MORE YOU SPEND, WHEN I COME AGAIN, I WILL REPAY YOU.’
36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”
37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Matthew 9:1-17 – JESUS AUTHORITY FROM GOD WAS EQUAL TO HIS COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE. GOD KNOWS WHOM HE CAN TRUST WITH GREAT AUTHORITY. YET, IT’S THE PEOPLE’S FAITH JESUS IS LOOKING FOR.
1 Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7 Then the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Matthew 9:18-26 – JESUS, NOR HIS DISCIPLES, EVER HAVE TO THINK TWICE ABOUT REACHING OUT TO HELP ANY PERSON IN NEED.
18 While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, 24 he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.”But they laughed at him. 25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26 News of this spread through all that region.
MATTHEW 9:27-34 – WHEN GOD’S PEOPLE AREN’T LOOKING TO BE RECOGNIZED, IT’S GOD WHO WILL SEE THAT OTHERS FIND OUT ABOUT WHAT GOD IS DOING.
27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” 28 When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they replied. 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” 31 But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
32 While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. 33 And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
14 And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. 15 Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. 16 And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?”
17 Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. 18 And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”
19 He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”
20 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.
21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, HAVE COMPASSION ON US AND HELP US.”
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” 29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
I Corinthians 12:26 – IF ONE OF OUR MEMBERS IN THE BODY OF CHRIST SUFFERS, WE ALL FEEL IT.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
Matthew 25:31-40 – NO ACT OF MERCY AND COMPASSION GOES UNNOTICED WITH OUR LORD. RATHER, IT IS THESE ACTS OF COMPASSION WITH THE RESOURCES HE HAS GIVEN US THAT HE IS LOOKING FOR FROM HEAVEN.
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags.29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then THE RIGHTEOUS will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we SEE YOU HUNGRY AND FED YOU, OR THIRSTY AND GAVE YOUR DRINK? 38 When did we SEE YOU A STRANGER AND TAKE YOU IN, OR NAKED AND CLOTHE YOU? 39 Or when did we SEE YOU SICK, OR IN PRISON, AND COME TO YOU?’
40 And THE KING will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the LEAST OF THESE MY BRETHREN, YOU DID IT TO ME.’
HELP OUR FAMILY, THE BODY OF CHRIST, AND OTHERS IN THEIR AFFLICTION
I Timothy 5:8 – PROVIDE THE NEEDS AND CONCERNS OF OUR FAMILY FIRST
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Acts 4:33-35 – GREAT ARE THE NEEDS IN THE BODY OF CHRIST, LOCALLY AND AFAR.
33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And GREAT GRACE was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
I John 3:16-18 – OUR COMPASSION GIVES US CAPACITY, OUR FAITH GIVES US WORKS, AND GOD’S WISDOM GIVES US LIFE.
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
James 1:27 – VISIT THE ORPHANS AND WIDOWS.
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
GOD EXPECTS US TO START WITH WHAT WE DO HAVE
Mark 6:33-44 – LIKE JESUS, GOD EXPECTS US TO GIVE THE UNFED SOMETHING TO EAT. GOD WILL ALWAYS ASK US TO “GO AND SEE” WHAT WE DO HAVE. IF WE WILL PRAY OVER IT AND BLESS IT TO GIVE TO THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY, THEN GOD WILL NOT JUST MEET THE NEED, BUT FILL IT.
YET, LIKE JESUS WE MUST CONTINUE TO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM AND WORD OF GOD TO THOSE WHO ARE RECEIVING AIDE. OTHERWISE, THEIR NATURAL MAN MAY BE SUSTAINED, BUT THEIR INNER MAN WOULD PERISH. THE KINGDOM OF GOD NEEDS BIBLES, MINISTERS, AND TRANSLATORS. THANK GOD FOR PEOPLE LIKE PAUL OSTEEN, WHO COMMITTED HIS LIFE TO AND FOR THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IN THE FOREIGN FIELDS.
33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him.
34 And Jesus, when He came out, SAW A GREAT MULTITUDE and was MOVED WITH COMPASSION FOR THEM, BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKE SHEEP NOT HAVING A SHEPHERD. So He began to teach them many things.
35 When the day was now far spent, His disciples came to Him and said, “This is a deserted place, and already the hour is late. 36 Send them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.”
37 But He answered and said to them, “YOU GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO EAT.” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?” 38 But He said to them, “HOW MANY LOAVES DO YOU HAVE? GO and SEE.” And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”
39 Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties.
41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, HE LOOKED UP TO HEAVEN, BLESSED AND BROKE THE LOAVES, AND GAVE THEM TO HIS DISCIPLES TO SET BEFORE THEM; and the two fish He divided among them all.
42 So THEY ALL ATE AND WERE FILLED.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men.
Mark 8:1-9 – IF JESUS WAS CONCERNED ABOUT A MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE HAVING NOTHING TO EAT FOR 3 DAYS, HOW MUCH MORE WOULD HE HAVE COMPASSION MANIFEST GOD’S GRACE AND POWER TO HELP THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN STARVING.
1 In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them, 2 “I HAVE COMPASSION ON THE MULTITUDE, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.
3 And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.”
4 Then His disciples answered Him, “How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?” 5 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”
6 So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. 7 They also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He said to set them also before them. 8 So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. 9 Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He sent them away, 10 immediately got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.
2 Corinthians 8:1-24 – WHEN THE GRACE OF GOD IS ACTIVE IN A REBORN CHILD OF GOD, THEIR GENEROUS LIBERALITY WILL SWELL UP EVEN IN THE MIDST OF THEIR OWN CLEAR AND PRESENT NEED. WE SEE THIS GRACE OF GOD MANIFESTED BY THE CORINTHIAN CHURCH IN HOW THEY GAVE TO THE CHURCHES OF MACEDONIA. YET, PAUL EXHORTED THEM SEVERAL MONTHS LATER TO CONTINUE IN THIS COMMITMENT TO HELP THOSE CHURCHES – WITH WHATEVER “THEY DID HAVE.”
1 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the GRACE OF GOD BESTOWED ON THE CHURCHES OF MACEDONIA: 2 that in a GREAT TRIAL OF AFFLICTION the abundance of their joy and THEIR DEEP POVERTY ABOUNDED IN THE RICHES OF THEIR LIBERALITY.
3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
5 And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.
6 So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well.
7 But AS YOU ABOUND IN EVERYTHING —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you abound in THIS GRACE ALSO.
8 I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
10 And in this I give advice: It is TO YOUR ADVANTAGE ONLY TO BE DOING WHAT YOU BEGAN AND WERE DESIRING A YEAR AGO; 11 but now YOU MUST ALSO COMPLETE THE DOING OF IT; that as there was a READINESS TO DESIRE IT, so there also may be A COMPLETION OUT OF WHAT YOU HAVE.
12 For if there is FIRST A WILLING MIND, it is accepted according to WHAT ONE HAS, and not according to what he does not have.
13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; 14 but by an equality, that now at this time YOUR ABUNDANCE MAY SUPPLY THEIR LACK, that THEIR ABUNDANCE ALSO MAY SUPPLY YOUR LACK—that there may be equality.
15 As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”
16 But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. 17 For he not only accepted THE EXHORTATION, but being more diligent, he went to you of his own accord.
18 And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches, 19 and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift, which is administered by us to the glory of the Lord Himself and to show your ready mind, 20 avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this lavish gift which is administered by us— 21 PROVIDING HONORABLE THINGS, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
22 And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, because of the great confidence which we have in you. 23 If anyone inquires about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker concerning you. Or if our brethren are inquired about, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ. 24 Therefore show to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.
2 Corinthians 9:1-15 – GOD’S PEOPLE MINISTER TO THE NEEDS OF EACH OTHER. YET, PAUL IS LETTING US KNOW THAT WHEN A GROUP OF PEOPLE DECIDE TO GIVE GENEROUSLY, IT WILL STIR UP THE MAJORITY OF GOD’S PEOPLE. AND HE REMINDS THE CORINTHIANS THAT GOD IS ABLE TO MAKE ALL GRACE ABOUND TOWARD THEM FOR EVERY GOOD WORK. IT IS FOR THIS PURPOSE THEY SHOULD “SOW ABUNDANTLY” SO THEY COULD CONTINUE ABOUNDING TO EVERY GOOD WORK IN THIS CAPACITY. AS THE PEOPLE OF GOD, CONTINUE TO “DISPERSE ABROAD” TO HELP THE POOR.
1 Now concerning the MINISTERING TO THE SAINTS, it is superfluous for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and YOUR ZEAL HAS STIRRED UP THE MAJORITY.
3 Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may be ready; 4 lest if some Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed of this confident boasting.
5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a A MATTER OF GENEROSITY and not as a grudging obligation.
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So LET EACH ONE GIVE AS HE PURPOSES IN HIS HEART, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And GOD IS ABLE TO MAKE ALL GRACE ABOUND TOWARD YOU, that you, ALWAYS HAVING ALL SUFFICIENCY IN ALL THINGS, MAY HAVE AN ABUNDANCE FOR EVERY GOOD WORK.
9 As it is written:“HE HAS DISPERSE ABROAD, HE HAS GIVEN TO THE POOR, HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ENDURES FOREVER.”
10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while YOU ARE ENRICHED IN EVERYTHING FOR ALL LIBERALITY, WHICH CAUSES THANKSGIVING THROUGH US TO GOD.
12 For the administration of this service NOT ONLY SUPPLIES THE NEEDS OF THE SAINTS, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, 13 while, through THE PROOF OF THIS MINISTRY, THEY GLORIFY GOD FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF YOUR CONFESSION TO THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST, and for YOUR LIBERAL SHARING WITH THEM AND ALL MEN,
14 AND BY THEIR PRAYER FOR YOU, WHO LONG FOR YOU because of the EXCEEDING GRACE OF GOD IN YOU. 15 Thanks be to God for HIS INDESCRIBABLE GIFT!
GOD ALSO NEEDS INTERCESSORS & LABORERS
Matthew 9:35-38 – GOD NEEDS MORE THAN COMPASSION AND RESOURCES. HE NEEDS INTERCESSORS AND LABORERS TO GO INTO THE HARVEST WITH THE EVERLASTING AND ETERNAL GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE NATURAL THINGS NECESSARY FOR GOD TO MULTIPLY. GOD IS ALWAYS INTERESTED IN MULTIPLICATION.
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM AND HEALING EVERY DISEASE AND SICKNESS.
36 When he saw the crowds, HE HAD COMPASSION ON THEM, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
SUPPORTING WORKS OF COMPASSION
LET’S PUT THE WORD OF GOD INTO ACTION. HERE ARE SOME OF THE CAUSES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. REGARDLESS OF WHICH MINISTRY WE CONTRIBUTE TO – ALL SHOULD MINISTER LIFE, GRACE, AND TRUTH THE GOSPEL THAT REACHES OUT TO LOST, DYING, AND AFFLICTED.
THERE MAY BE OTHER MINISTRIES OF THE GOSPEL WILL BE ADDED AS THEY ARE RESEARCHED.
KEEP THIS WORK AND ROD PARSLEY IN YOUR PRAYERS.
PROVIDES FOOD, CLOTHING, AND EDUCATION IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
RECRUITING, TRAINING, MOBILIZING BELIEVERS TO BOLDLY & EFFECTIVELY COMBAT ATTACKS AGAINST ISRAEL.
USE WISDOM WHEN SUPPORTING MINISTRIES
IT IS ALSO WISE TO UNDERSTAND THAT JUST AS PETER WAS CHOSEN BY JESUS, AND THEN REBUKED FOR ALLOWING SATAN TO SPEAK THROUGH HIM, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT GOD’S PEOPLE OR MINISTERS CAN BE IN TRUTH IN ONE ASPECT AND YET BE ALTOGETHER IN ERROR IN ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE MINISTRY. THIS IS WHY WE MUST STUDY GOD’S WORD TO GAIN DISCERNMENT OF EVERY THING WE DO IN AND FOR THE WORK OF GOD.
IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE FOR MINISTERS TO BEGIN OR CONTINUE IN THE FAITH AND YET TURN BACK TO THE WICKEDNESS OF THE WORLD. EVERY MAN WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT TO GOD WITH THE MONEY AND RESOURCES GOD HAS GIVEN THEM. THIS IS TRUE FOR MINISTERS AND THOSE WHO ARE NOT.
IT IS ALSO WISE TO KNOW THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT WHERE THE MONEY IS SENT TO WILL ACCOMPLISH WHAT IT WAS SENT TO DO. BUT IF WE DO GIVE, DON’T GIVE TO MEN. GIVE TO GOD. MOST OF ALL, PRAY FOR THESE WORKS AND MINISTERS.
BUT ALL GOD’S PEOPLE MUST UNDERSTAND THAT JESUS MINISTRY WASN’T BASED ON ANYTHING BUT GOD’S MERCY FOR THOSE WHO NEEDED SALVATION. SALVATION REQUIRES FAITH. AND GOD IS THE ONE WHO EVEN GRANTS THE FAITH TO BELIEVE HIM.
IF ANY MINISTRY OR WORK IS BASED ON GOD’S MERCY AND FULL OF COMPASSION, IT SHOULD BE SUPPORTED. JESUS EVEN SAID IF WE HAVE GIVEN TO THE “LEAST OF THESE” OR “LEAST OF THESE MY BRETHREN” YOU HAVE DONE IT UNTO ME. THE LORD HONORS THOSE WHO GIVE TO GOD’S WORK OR GIVE IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. LOVE BELIEVES ALL, AND LOVE COVERS A MULTITUDE OF SINS (PROVERBS 10:12; SEE I CORINTHIANS 13:7-10)
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the LEAST OF THESE MY BRETHREN, YOU DID IT TO ME.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the LEAST OF THESE, YOU DID IT NOT TO ME.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
HAVING SAID THAT, I AM PRAYING FOR EVERY MINISTER, KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, TO BE BLAMELESS BEFORE OUR HOLY GOD. I WOULD THAT NONE PERISH. NONE. NONE. NONE. NONE.
HOWEVER, SINCE SOME MAY TRUST THE CREDIBILITY OF ANY ORGANIZATION OR WORK LISTED HERE, THE FACT THAT MORE WORKS MAY BE ADDED, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHERE (OR HOW MUCH OF THE MONEY) IS GOING TO THE WORK SPECIFIED…
…WE MUST BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING PROPHECY IN 2 PETER 2 WHICH LETS US KNOW THAT THE “WAY OF TRUTH” WOULD BE BROUGHT INTO DISREPUTE. I PRAY THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN.
2 PETER 2
2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will SECRETLY BRING IN DESTRUCTIVE HERESIES, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
2 And MANY WILL FOLLOW THEIR DESTRUCTIVE WAYS, because of whom the WAY OF TRUTH will be blasphemed.
3 BY COVETOUSNESS they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—
9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.
12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will RECEIVE THE WAGES OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a HEART TRAINED IN COVETOUS PRACTICES, and are accursed children.
15 They have FORSAKEN THE RIGHT WAY AND GONE ASTRAY, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who LOVED THE WAGES OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
17 These are WELLS WITHOUT WATER, CLOUDS CARRIED BY A TEMPEST, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, than having known it, to turn from the HOLY COMMANDMENT DELIVERED TO THEM.
22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”
GOD’S WISDOM AND FINAL WORD OF EXHORTATION
I CORINTHIANS 9:19-27 – BECOME ALL THINGS TO ALL MEN TO GAIN THEM
19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I HAVE MADE MYSELF A SLAVE TO EVERYONE, TO WIN AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. 20 TO THE JEWS I BECAME LIKE A JEW, TO WIN THE JEWS. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To THOSE NOT HAVING THE LAW those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.
22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? RUN IN SUCH A WAY TO GET THE PRIZE.
25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
HEBREWS 13 – CONTINUE TO WALK IN LOVE, MINISTER TO NEEDS OF OTHERS, AND LIVE RIGHTEOUS BEFORE GOD.
1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Be NOT FORGETFUL TO ENTERTAIN STRANGERS: for some have entertained angels unawares. 3REMEMBER THEM THAT ARE IN BONDS, AS BOUND WITH THEM; and THEM WHICH SUFFER ADVERSITY, AS BEING YOURSELVES ALSO IN THE BODY.
4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle. 11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But TO DO GOOD and TO COMMUNICATE FORGET NOT: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. 18 PRAY FOR US: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. 20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 MAKE YOU PERFECT IN EVERY GOOD WORK TO DO HIS WILL,WORKING IN YOUR THAT WHICH IS WELL PLEASING IN HIS SIGHT, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
I CORINTHIANS 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, BE STEADFAST, UNMOVEABLE, ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD, forasmuch as you know that YOUR LABOUR IS NOT IN VAIN IN THE LORD.
2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-7 – BY THE GRACE OF GOD, COMMIT OURSELVES FIRST TO THE LORD, AND THEN TO THE CALL OF ACTING IN ACCORDANCE TO GOD’S WORK AND EXCEED ALL EXPECTATIONS.
8 And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.
3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.
5 And THEY EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS: THEY GAVE THEMSELVES FIRST OF ALL TO THE LORD, AND THEN BY THE WILL OF GOD ALSO TO US.
6 So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. 7 But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
23 LEE US HOLD FAST THE PROFESSION OF OUR FAITH WITHOUT WAVERING; (FOR HE IS FAITHFUL THAT PROMISED;) 24 And LET US CONSIDER ONE ANOTHER TO PROVOKE UNTO LOVE AND GOOD WORKS:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.
